Being back at school's been weird; I never really noticed until now how many couples there are at Carmel. The work's a decent distraction, though, and rehearsals have been stressful. We've got our Invitational coming up on the 16th, so it should calm down after that, if only briefly. We've already started talking about what we want to do for Sectionals, but coach promised us a bit of a rest before we started on that.

There isn't really much else to say, which means I should go. I've got more Calc. homework than I know what to do with.

Summer Vocal Adrenaline rehearsals have been a bitch this year, but the exhaustion is welcome. Helps me keep my mind shut off so I can sleep at night. This missing someone thing sucks, but I guess I've already known that for years. It just sucks that I wasn't able to take any other classes at the center this summer because of them.

Well, I guess it's not entirely because of them that I couldn't - there was also the extended trip back home, and, hey, did I mention that my mother and I are hosting an exchange student this year? We all know how much I liked getting to know Maël last year ;) (not that the two situations are compareable) and a business associate of my mother's asked if we had the space... I said why not, you know? I'm sure my mother will like having a female presence around the house, too. Try not to be too jealous, eh, Quinn?

So I've got a host-sister right now, she's been here a few days, but she's been in Ohio all summer. She's shyer than I was expecting, though, but it's cool. Be nice to her, you hear? She's Carmel now, and we look after our own.

What other foreign languages do you know? Which one(s) do you want to learn?

I know some Spanish, since my mom's family speaks it, but that's it, really. I'd like to learn French properly, too, but I doubt that comes as any surprise.

Speaking of, I've been quiet lately, I know. I don't care. There hasn't been much to say, I guess. Things have been... weird. It's only been about a week since Maël left, and already it's too noticeable. I can’t really say that I’m lonely, though; I've been in Illinois since last Sunday – needed a change of scenery – and there’s never any shortage of people here. I’m itching to get home, though – the house is big and all, but there’s no decent spot for dancing, the ceilings are all too low for that. I’ll head back in a few days, probably; it’s almost my grandmother’s birthday and it’d be a pretty dick move to not stay for it.

What's the most memorable piece of advice your father has shared with you?

Don't knock someone up before you gradu-
Don't marry your high school swe-
It's a stronger 'fuck you' to walk out than to file the paperw-
High school doesn't last forev-
“If winning isn't everything, why do they keep score?”

Not his own quote, but he used to tell me that before ever soccer game. It isn't advice, per se, but he wasn't much of an advice-giver, anyway.

I always feel a little out of place on days like this. It's not exactly right for me to say, "fuck it, I'm not going to pay respect to someone who might as well have just been a donar." He was around for the first eight years of my life. I guess that's gotta count for something. Not for the first time, I find that music speaks a Hell of a lot better than I ever could:

Fucking Father's Day, man.

Seventeen is just a test,
Yeah, and I would recommend
That you live with no regrets

Words of the wise, if you ask me. Not a huge RJA fan or anything, but they've got some good lines.

For a city that's supposed to be thriving and constantly evolving, returning to New York always seems to give me an overwhelming sense of familiarity. Of belonging, if you will. I don't want to leave, but then, I never really do. One more year of high school, that's what I have to keep telling myself. But it gets harder every year we come here. And harder still now that I'm not so sure future actually lies there.

I'm glad we've got a day to ourselves before competition starts - even gladder that we're not rehearsing for most of it. I plan to make the best of it. To all you first-timers: You're being set free in New York City - what's the first thing you want to do?

In three words, how would you describe Lady Gaga?

Fine, fresh, fierce... or is that Katy?

Nah, she's more like: epic, amazing and captivating.

Have I been awful at keeping this thing updated or what? Not that you can really blame me; Coach Goolsby works us harder than Miss. Corcoran ever did. I didn't think that was possible It's a miracle that we find the time to get our homework done (I'm behind in three classes right now, actually, which is better than some of my teammates can say) forget freetime for the internet - I can think of a few better things that I can spend that bit of time on... It'll be worth it when we add another Nationals title to our track record, though. We may not have Jesse anymore, but it's been nice to change it up with a female lead, I think. I mean, it's worked in our favor in our last two competitions, anyway. Besides, girl can fucking sing. Thanks again for that boost, guys ;)

Speaking of Jesse, though, it was great getting to see him again, even if the time was cut a little short - seriously, Finn, you're so bloody lucky Ms. Sylvester showed up when she did, or you'd have had another thing coming. Graduated or not, we protect our own. Sucks about the whole flunking out of college thing, though. I mean, I get the feeling that there had to be more at play than he's been letting on, but whatever. Let the man have his secrets. Now that he's back in town, though, Val hasn't been able to shut up. You should have heard her when she found out what happened at McKinley's prom.

I think I'm just about promed out after the past two weekends; fun as they both were, I'm glad they're a once-a-year thing. But it was nice getting to go with Maël to both, since he won't be here for my senior prom next year. I don't really want to think about how short our time is getting, though.

I've gotta run, though; break's over.
